Great resource for changing your brain is _The Power of Focus_ by Jack Canfield and others. Why people think they can change a habit formed over years in a matter of minutes on Dec 31 is indeed futile. And when you understand your instincts, that is your "gut feeling' that drives you to action, you can use this as a tool to "change your brain." Learn more about behavioral patterns -- or instincts -- called conative styles here: http://www.oprah.com/spirit/How-To-Keep-New-Years-Resolutions-Martha-Beck-Life-Coach-Advice_1.

Rather than make another long list of resolutions I knew wouldn't past the Super Bowl party, I decided 2010 was they year I would create a theme for the year. My theme: authenticity. It's my decision filter for taking on new clients (do they appreciate me for ME and the value I bring?) and new projects (does this work allow me to do WHAT I DO BEST?) Theme vs. resolution: LIBERATING! INSPIRING! EMPOWERING! I highly recommend it.
